On January 1st, 2024, the French Decree 2022-748 (Article R541-222) mandates producers of building products, materials, toys, and motor vehicles to disclose environmental information on a dedicated website. Additionally, a new visibility requirement for the durability index applies to Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE). This decree is applicable to companies with an annual revenue exceeding 20 million Euros, distributing at least 10,000 units annually in France.
Germany has initiated a revised tariff list for official fees related to WEEE and batteries (ElektroGBattGGebV) starting January 1st, 2024.
As of January 1st, 2024, Germany has enforced a levy on single-use plastics in compliance with the Single-Use Plastics Directive. The first payment is due in 2025.
Starting January 1st, 2024, Finland has eliminated the packaging threshold. Companies introducing packaging into the Finnish market are now required to register and participate in one of the collective packaging schemes.
Also commencing on January 1st, 2024, Denmark has introduced a bonus-malus model for extended guaranteed durability of electrical and electronic products. Fees will be collected for the first time on January 1st, 2025, following the reporting of 2024 market volumes.
Since January 1st, 2024, producers of single-use plastic packaging and foodservice ware operating in California must join a producer responsibility organization (PRO) to sell, import, or distribute these materials in the state.
Vietnam has imposed specific recycling obligations for batteries effective since January 1st, 2024.
From February 18th, 2023, the new Batteries Regulation (EU) 2023/1542, in force since August 18th, 2023, will become effective in phases across the European Union.
By April 1st, 2024, the Danish dpa-System expects companies introducing packaging into the Danish market to register and provide information on the expected packaging volume for 2024 in Denmark.
May 31st, 2024, marks the final reporting deadline for large producers under the new UK packaging EPR.
Stocks of gardening products and toys lacking the Triman logo of France must be depleted by June 6th, 2024. Post this date, adherence to Triman marking as per French regulations becomes mandatory.
July 1st, 2024, is the deadline in Italy for implementing the plastic tax, finally applying at 0.45 € per kg of virgin plastic. The tax aims to reduce single-use plastic products (MACSI), with exemptions for medical devices or products used for storage and protection.
Starting August 25th, 2024, decorative textiles in France require the Triman marking.
The EU Commission plans to revise the textile labeling Regulation by December 31st, 2024, introducing specifications for physical and digital textile labeling, encompassing sustainability and circularity parameters based on proposed eco-design regulations for sustainable EU products.
